Zanette Shawl
I used two skeins of Marianated Yarns’ Scrumptious HT base for my shawl -- if you’d like to do the same, she’s got some GORGEOUS COLORS to choose from!
Sometimes, I just can’t leave well enough alone. My original Zanna Shawl, which was made in a dense DK, was such a fun knit that I immediately began to wonder how the design might translate to fingering weight yarn. In Marianated Yarns’ Scrumptious HT, the result is a very wide, floaty accessory that can be worn as either a shallow shawl or a drapey scarf. Knit the striking lace border first, then add a second color to shape the shawl body with garter stitch and simple short rows. Use two tonal shades, or toss in a highly variegated skein for the shawl body, where the ever-changing stitch count helps prevent pooling.
This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.
Recommended Yarn:
Marianated Yarns Scrumptious HT, two skeins — 80% superwash merino / 10% cashmere / 10% nylon — 400 yds to 100 g. Shown in colorways Princess and the Pea (yarn A — approx. 350 yds) and Torrential Downpour (yarn B — approx. 370 yds).
Sizing:
74” (188 cm) wide and 15” (38 cm) at deepest point.
Gauge:
18 sts and 28 rows to 4” (10 cm) in stockinette st, and 20 sts and 32 rows to 4” (10 cm) in garter st (fabric on smaller needles and strongly blocked in both measurements).
PLEASE NOTE: Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions, be sure to use needle size that gives gauge.
Needles:
US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle (or size that gives gauge), at least 32” length — also US 6 (4 mm) needle (or needle one size larger than main needle) for bind off.
Other Materials:
17 stitch markers, 2 more removable stitch markers (optional), yarn scale, tapestry needle.
Many thanks to Marian of Marianated Yarns for her support! This pattern was professionally tech edited by Lisa Beth Houchins (Meanest Mommy Knits).
