This cowl is part of a matching set that also includes a headband and cowl with buttons. You can buy each separately, but there is an automatic 33% discount when you add all three of them to your cart.

All my patterns are using Calibri font size 13 in black on white, so they are accessible and easy to read on different screens and when printed. All abbreviations and acronyms are explained in the pattern.

The instructions below are given for a cowl that is about 60 cm long (23.6 inches) and 15 cm wide (5.9 inches). You can make it longer or shorter by adding or removing pattern repeats. It can be made narrower by removing one stitch from each side of the cable, or by crocheting one less row on the sides. Conversely, it can be made wider by adding stitches before and after the cable, or by crocheting more rows on the sides.

You can make it even narrower (for example, for a child) by using lower weight yarn and smaller sized needles.

You will get a PDF document that includes:

  • Written instructions in English, using US, UK and metric measurements and needle sizes
  • Chart of the main cable panel (you can use the written instructions without the chart; this is just here in case you prefer charts)
  • Detailed instructions for how to work each cable

Skills required: knit, purl, pick up stitches along the edge, crochet.

You will need:

  • Knitting needles of 4mm / 8 UK / 6 US (or size suitable to the yarn that you use)
  • Crochet needle size 3 mm / US C or D / UK 11 (or size suitable to the yarn that you use)
  • Cable needle one size smaller than the knitting needles.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • 120 grams (4 ounces) of yarn (DK weight). I recommend Merino because it is a little elastic.

Enjoy!
