A simple square hat, easily modified and quick to knit. This pattern has three points at the top, with pompoms on strings… because it is for a 5yo. It will fit for years, though, and also fits my 2yo.

I used 80g of the main color, and wasted about 40g of the contrast color trying to make pompoms. Less would suffice for most pom pom experts.
