This pattern is for an overlay mosaic crochet square that can be used in other types of projects, such as blankets, pillows, satchel bags, table mats, etc.

Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.

The sample image uses 4 colors of yarn for the square and then 3 more for the optional appliqued leaves & flowers. The total weight is around 4 oz of aran/worsted weight #4 yarn.

The square is created first, and then the leaves & flowers are stitched separately using a 4mm hook & tacked on. There are also French knots at the ends of the tentacles done with a yarn needle.

This is a great way to use up scraps!
