Zephyr Tides (2020)
This is a reworked and graded version of my Zephyr Tides Cardi, originally released in collaboration with Darn Good Yarn. If you’re interested in purchasing the silk yarn used for the original sample, click here to see what they currently have in stock. Thank you so much for your support!
Zephyr Tides is a light and breezy open-front, cropped cardigan with balloon sleeves, worked mainly in garter stitch, featuring a couple simple stitch textures. The cardigan body is worked flat in one piece from the bottom up, shoulders are attached, and sleeves are then worked in the round from the top down - no seaming required! This design is meant to have a relaxed or oversized fit, but you may prefer a smaller size with less ease (more sizing information below). You can easily customize the body and sleeve lengths to fit your body and preference.
Details:
- Intermediate level
- Written in English and US terms
- Skills to know: Cable cast on, knit, purl, moss stitch, decrease, increase, i-cord edging, pick up and knit, work in the round, twisted stitches, blocking, three-needle bind off
- You’ll need: US size 3 (3.25mm) knitting needles (or size needed to obtain gauge), 24-40” circulars recommended for the body, 16-24” for the sleeves, plus 1-2 needle sizes down as desired in preferred small-circumference method for tighter cuff ribbing, waste yarn for placing stitches on hold, stitch markers, and pins for blocking. Knit blockers, blocking wires, and mats are very helpful but not necessary
- Approximately 1121 (1261, 1402, 1564, 1721) (1897, 2107, 2295) yds / 1026 (1154, 1282, 1430, 1574) (1735, 1927, 2099) m fingering weight yarn/yarn that works up to gauge; check out others’ projects for more yarn/fiber/color inspiration!

Notes on sizing:
Zephyr Tides has been graded and written for 8 sizes, ranging from 32-74 in/81.5-188 cm total finished panel measurement at the bust. This design is meant to have a relaxed or oversized fit, but you may prefer a smaller size with less ease. Sample shown is the size 2 (38 in/96.5 cm), worn on a 33.5 in/85 cm bust. Since it is an open cardigan, there is a bit more flexibility in choosing a size depending on your desired fit. Full schematic and measurements included in listing photos. Let me know if you have any questions regarding sizing!
Pattern gauge:
4”/10 cm = 22 sts/32 rows in garter stitch, worked flat
Taken after wet blocking, using US size 3 (3.25mm) needles. Note that row gauge will need to be stretched during blocking to achieve the same look/gauge as the sample.
Note: All measurements are approximate and taken after blocking. Inches are rounded to the nearest 0.25 in and centimeters to the nearest 0.5 cm.
