Zig Zag Chevron Hat
-
This hat is not as complicated as it looks. Tapestry crochet is actually a fairly simple technique and there should be more detailed tutorials online if you have trouble.
-
This pattern uses about 175 yds of Yarn A and 30 yds of Yarn B. I often make two hats with inverse color schemes and still have some left over.
-
The finished hat should fit the average adult head. Length can be added easily, but width cannot due to the tapestry crochet. If you find that the tapestry section is too tight, try switching to a larger hook until it’s done.
-
As written, the seam of this hat may slant slightly. Unfortunately, most of the usual methods for making a straight seam interfere with the tapestry crochet section. However, if you keep your slip stitches tight, the slant should be minimal and you can correct it in the other portions if you wish.
-
Patons Metallic can be difficult to work with as it catches easily and tends to knot itself when stitches are unraveled. However, I like the end effect enough to use it anyway. Feel free to replace it with any other worsted yarn and a hook that matches the gauge.
