This pattern makes a fun and trendy zig zag knitted lap blanket, perfect for your little one, or as a very special baby shower gift. You can use this pattern for a blanket as I have done in the example, and you can also use it to create other projects as well, such as the baby hat you see pictured. The pdf does not include the pattern for the hat.

You can use several complementary colors as shown, or you can use one color or a variegated color. They all look great with this zig zag stitch pattern!

There is a special technique used for the edges, so you will have finished, beautiful edges without having to add anything to the body of the blanket.

The pattern includes helpful YouTube videos so you know exactly what to do each step of the way. It also includes a handy Stitch Abbreviation guide at the end, so you know how to “read” the pattern.

Project Details:

Finished size: Standard Lap Blanket - 36” x 45”

Materials: 1200 yds Medium #4 yarn (“I Love This Cotton” 100% cotton yarn)

Tools: Knitting Needles size US 10 (6 mm), Yarn Needle

Gauge: 17 sts x 22 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch

Pattern notes:
This Zig Zag blanket is so soft and has a wonderful weight because of the cotton yarn that is used. You can make it with whatever yarn you wish, but I highly recommend a soft cotton. I also recommend using a slightly larger needle than recommended on the label of your yarn because it causes the fabric to be nice and “squishy”, perfect for a cuddly blanket!
I used circular needles because the weight of the blanket would make knitting with straight needles rather cumbersome.
My stripe pattern is fun, but you can use whatever pattern you like, or no stripes, or use your favorite variegated yarn. Be creative and have fun!
