When using the yarn colours oatmeal and raisin I wondered if I was making breakfast or a pattern. At least they’re a natural pairing!

The hat is knit first using 1 ball of main colour (oatmeal) and then finished with 1/2 ball of dark contrasting colour (raisin).

The rim of the hat is worked with ribbing followed by a repeating knit and purl pattern to create the zig zag texture. Although the zig zag looks complicated, the only techniques that you need to know for this pattern are joining in the round, knitting, purling, decreasing, and binding off! Changing colour is optional.

The hat is knit in the round using a 16” long circular needle. A wide hole is left at the top of the hat for a ponytail. When decreasing stitches at the top of the hat you might like to switch to a smaller circular needle or use the magic loop method.

There are optional instructions for attaching flannel to add comfort around the ears.
