Ziggy Pop
Join us for the Color Packs & Stash Scraps Knit-along from Jan 1 - Feb 28, 2016!
**The “Ziggy Pop” pdf also includes instructions to make the “Odd Harmonics” hat, which can be found here.**
Ziggy Pop uses itty bitty balls of fingering-weight yarn to great effect against a solid background color in this fun-to-make AND fun-to-wear hat!
It’s a terrific introduction to color work, not only because the “floats” are simple (floats never travel across more than 5 sts), but also because the first page contains my “Tips for Color Work”.
The pattern is written for a 16.75 (21)“ circumference which should fit a small child (medium adult). Size could be modified through varying gauge with a larger needle, using a slightly heavier yarn, or both.
Fingering-weight yarn is held double throughout this pattern, which results in a cushy, cozy fabric. Gauge (with yarn held double) is 23 sts x 27 rows = 4” x 4” in Charted Colorwork Stockinette Stitch.
The Yarn:
My sample hat used the “Pewter and Rainbow Leftie Set” from Miss Babs (www.missbabs.com) • 100% superwash merino • 115 g / 400 yds • 1 full skein + 5 mini skeins (40 yds each) • approx 150 (220) yds of MC & 25 (35) yds of each CC.
It is likely you will have enough yarn leftover from a “Leftie Set” to make a second hat, which is why this pattern comes as a 2-hat pattern set!
Other Materials:
• US Size 3 / 3.25mm circular needle
• US Size 2 / 2.75mm circular needle (ribbing only)
• 1 traveling stitch marker
• yarn needle
Techniques Used:
• Knitting in the round
• Stranded Colorwork (working with 2 colors at a time)
• Decreases (K2tog & SSK)
• Knitting and Purling through the back loop
Many, many thanks to REJ & Kybosh for test knitting this pattern!
