ZigZag is a top-down crescent shaped shawl with a small center spine repeated on the edges. The main part of the shawl is a zig zag pattern made with knits and purls.

You need to be able to do a garter tab, knit, purl, knit and purl two together and do yarn overs.
This pattern is also only available as a chart (with both RS and WS rows charted), so you need to be able to read charts as well.

The shawl is fully reversible.
Gauge is not important and you can extend the shawl or stopp whenever you want. I used about 600m for the original pattern (without the extension pack), in a 4-ply lace 50% cotton / 50% acrylic yarn. Just knit wherever your yarn takes you.

Just make sure you don’t use too big a needle or the pattern will vanish! This is not a lace shawl!

Have fun knitting!

UPDATE 4/2/2015: Placed the edge increase to the inside of the edge pattern so it doesn’t distort any more. The picture shows the distorted edge! The new edge should look exactly like the center spine now!

And another update 4/2/2015: If you want the shawl even bigger, there is now a Zig Zig Shawl Extension Pack available with the download, which will extend this thing from 106 rows in the original pattern up to 176 rows! This pack contains ONLY THE MAIN PATTERN! Edges, Spine and symbol key are continuing as in the original file, but are not printed again!

If you want it even bigger… (What are you? Addicted to this shawl?) …mail me and I’ll do my best!

TEST KNIT UPDATE: I reached the end of the original pattern and used 588 meters. Add the bind off row, and 600m should be just (!) enough.
With my colorway, the shawl looks as if I just dipped the edge into ink, so I’ll go on knitting the extension pack. The change between the original pattern and the extension pack will be made visible by removable stitch markers in the final picture.

Final Update: The Test Knit is done, so the mail file now contains pictures!
