Yay for Spring, and for letting our fingers out into the open again! Everyone will love these gorgeous mitts, which use stranded colourwork to produce an offset zigzag effect. The pattern uses simple charts and is suitable for knitters with little or no experience of colourwork. You’ll need only small amounts of each of the two contrast colours, so is a great stashbusting project.
A pattern for a matching, DK/light worsted weight hat can be found here.
Yarn Required
Fingering weight yarn in the following approximate quantities :
MC: 125 (135, 145) yards / 115 (125, 135) metres; CC1 and CC2 (each): 30 (35, 40)y / 25 (30, 35)m.
Or, in grams:
35 (35, 40)g MC and 10g each CC for all sizes.
Gauge
Gauge is measured in the pattern stitch, worked in the round. Most knitters will achieve gauge with a fingering or light fingering weight yarn.
Finished Measurements
You can resize the mitts easily by adding or subtracting multiples of 4 sts when you cast on.
Note: some testers found that their mitts worked up small. Bear in mind that many knitters work more tightly when stranding knitting. Check your gauge carefully.
