This quick and easy knit cap was knit as part of our local hats for kids project. The size is suitable for an older child or pre-teen, but easily adjustable by increasing or decreasing the number of cast-on stitches in multiples of eight (8).

The hat is knit in the round, and the 4-round stitch pattern is created using simple knit and purl stitches, resulting in a nicely textured fabric. Decreases using k2tog form the crown of the hat.

A solid or semi-solid colorway is recommended to show off the zig zag design well. As you can see in the bottom photo on this page, the stitch design is somewhat lost when knit in a multi-color yarn.

Any worsted or aran weight yarn would be suitable. Check your gauge if you require a specific hat size. The sample hat was not blocked.
