Zingara Shawlette
( update: 2nd updated pdf in store now. pattern typo corrections - please note I found another typo in this 2nd update… Row 2 kfb, yo, k4. Or all Garter rows Knit to end)
Leave out the YO in the last row of lace too.
Made this shawlette for a friend and wanted it to be small so it just sat on the chest rather then wrap around shoulders but be wide enough to have long ends to hang down the front.
I have never written or published a pattern before so im sure one of you out there will find something i will need to correct so please let me know, for starters, i did not do a gauge swatch i just knitted it as its not a jumper etc. I did test out different pattern stitches until i found what i liked as I didn’t want a regular triangle more of an obtuse one and i didn’t want to use stitch markers, I just wanted to knit and have one eye on the TV. This would be a nice shawl for a beginner knitter and its free.
Materials:
Irish Artisan Yarn 4 ply / fingering. colour is Waterferd
Hand dyed 70% Alpaca 30% Silk
100g skein all of it got used approx 400m
3.75mm needles, US 5, UK 09
Measurements:
Measures when blocked 64in x 23in deep (160x59cm)
Knitted from the bottom up. It’s garter stitch and alternate lace/mesh.
You can choose how many rows of each section/stripe you want.
I knitted more width of the lace then garter.
I also wanted to have the lace eyelet/hole all the way up the edges even in the garter section.
Notice it is a 2 stitch increase on the garter section and 1 stitch increase on the lace section bare this in mind when you choose how wide each of your sections will be as it will show if you do to many rows of one and not enough of the other. I chose to do 4 eyelets (8 rows) and 6 garter.
