Zoey Socks
Zoey is a toe-up slipped-stitch colourwork sock design inspired by the Fortnite “skin” (playable character) of the same name, which was in turn inspired by the racers in the Sugar Rush game from the animated movie Wreck It Ralph.
Instructions are given for both two and four colour versions of the sock. The four colour version was designed to use up leftover sock yarn, and could also be adapted for use with 3, 5, or any number of colours.
This pattern is charted in 5 sizes: XS (S, M, L, XL), with an approximate foot circumference of 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9) inches 18 (19, 20, 21.5, 23) cm. Leg sizes fit legs approximately 7.25 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9) inches 18.5 (19, 20, 21.5, 23)cm at smallest point above the ankle. Optional calf shaping means leg circumference can be increased as much as needed to accommodate a widening calf.
Zoey has a faux slipped-stitch heel flap with a heel turn that uses the shadow wraps short row technique
Zoey can be made to any leg height - ankle, mid-calf or even knee high. Yarn amounts given below are for a large size mid-calf sock. Less is required for ankles socks and more for knee socks.
2 Colour Version:
Colours should be highly contrasting with no crossover. For best results I recommend C1 be a solid colour. C2 can be solid, tonal or variegated/striped.
- C1 - 67g/275m/300yds
- C2 – 33g/137m/150yds
4 Colour Version:
C1 should contrast highly with the other 3 colours, with no cross over. The 3 secondary colours can be as similar or different to each other as you like. It is recommended all four be solids, but it is most important for C1 to be a solid colour.
- C1: 40g/168m/184yds (black in the 4 coloured sample sock).
- C2, C3, C4: 20g/84m/92yds each
