This pattern includes directions for knitting various size Adult socks using sock (fingering) yarn.
The pattern is worked from the top down and includes a 2 x 2 ribbed cuff (k2, p2), a short-row heel and standard toe shaping worked in the main color. The leg and foot portion of the sock is worked in two colors using a chart and a stranded color-work technique.

Fair Isle Socks: (basic differences from single-stranded “basic” socks to keep in mind)

  • The fabric is thicker and requires more yarn.
  • The fabric has less stretch ability. While the denser fabric may be more comfortable for many people, you may find that you require larger needles and more cast on stitches to obtain the proper fit especially in the leg portion of the sock.

Gauge Chart (included):
- Gauge is extremely important for this project. Most knitters prefer to knit socks with sock yarn (fingering weight). The problem is that all not all sock yarn is exactly the same weight. Yarn weight, knitting tension and selected needle size can all affect your gauge and therefore affect the measurements and fit of your finished item.
