The pattern is written in U.S. terms. Using a 3.5mm hook will be approx. Eleohant 13.5cm high & cm 11 wide.
giraffe 17cm high & cm 10 wide. Lion 14cm high & cm 9 wide.
Rhino 13cm high & cm 8.5 wide.

I use stylecraft special double knit for most of my applique patterns but any double knit yarn is suitable. Gauge is not important

they look gorgeous on a baby blanket & hat set or in a shadow box for a baby gift. It looks great on a bag or wall hanging too.
