Zora Neale Hurston was an American author, anthropologist, and documentary filmmaker. She portrayed racial struggles in the American South in the early 20th century. One of her four books, “Their Eyes Were Watching God”, which was released in 1937, is still the most popular. Zora has wrote over fifty plays, essays, and short tales.

Not only did her skillful contributions inspire these fingerless mitts, but in the last scene of the documentary still image, I noticed her beautiful fitted sweater had straightforward knits and purls near the collar.

I chose to make a lovely broken rib for the trim and then finish off the cuff with the classic k2, p2 stitch pattern. Zora is an easy knit design completed in fingering weight sock yarn. The pattern is beginner friendly and includes detailed instructions.
