Stuck at home and unable to get to the yarn shop, I had to knit a baby blanket… fast! I gathered all of the fingering, sport, DK, and worsted weight yarns I had and the Zucchini Blanket was born. Combining fingering and DK weights makes the equivalent of worsted, and holding two strands of sport together does the same. It’s a great way to use up odds and ends in your stash. The blanket is worked from corner to corner using different yarns and stitch patterns for visual interest. The final edging is crocheted in one solid color.
The basic construction of this blanket is simple: Begin with two stitches, increase to the desired width, and then decrease back to two stitches. When you add different colors of yarn and change stitch patterns throughout, the result is a wonderfully unique blanket.

Size: 30” x 30” finished dimensions, though pattern can be easily adapted to make larger or smaller blankets.

Worsted weight yarns will be held single strand
DK and fingering weight yarns will be held together
Sport weight will be held double strand

Materials:
750 total yards of yarn are needed for the body of the blanket, and an additional 130 yards are needed for the edging.
NOTE: yardage amounts vary depending on the weight of yarn you have. If you are using sport weight, you need double the yardage since the yarn will be doubled in the blanket. You’ll need equal amounts of yardage in DK and fingering since they will be knit together.
If you are using remnants from your stash or yarns without a label, it may be difficult to determine exact yardage. Gather up as much as you can and purchase a few extra balls of yarn from your LYS if it will give you peace of mind.

Additional Materials:
Four clear plastic bags (for separating yarn weights), tapestry needle, stitch markers if desired, small kitchen scale if desired.
