One of the greatest joys in knitting is being able to make something that can be used and enjoyed by ourselves and gifted to and appreciated by others. Handknit dishcloths were commonplace years ago and now serve as a wonderful way to reduce waste in our homes and also to learn or master new stitches and knitting techniques. I started this collection of patterns as a monthly club to bring knitters together and over the past year I have received so many heartwarming messages from knitters who felt joy in being able to create and gift or donate handknit cloths. Others wrote me to say that knitting the dishcloths helped keep their hands (and minds) busy during a difficult year. Some used the patterns to introduce the craft to children, grandchildren and friends. My hope is that these patterns will bring you much joy as you knit them too!
All of the patterns in this collection are written to be knit with worsted weight 100% cotton yarn. You will need approximately 50 grams or one small skein of yarn to knit one dishcloth. I recommend using US 3 or 3.25 mm straight needles, but you can use any needle size that achieves a gauge you are happy with. Each finished cloth measures approx. 8 inches by 8 inches. You may block the cloths if you wish, though it’s not necessary. In addition to the needles and yarn, you will need a darning needle to weave in the ends and some stitch markers. This collection includes 12 patterns, one for each month of the year.
