Every couple of years, I join Craft Cruises on an Alaskan knitting cruise. On the Southbound Alaska cruise, we explore Alaska’s most beautiful scenic areas as well as Alaska’s quaint ports of call. We discover amazing yarny treasures along the way, meet local knitters, learn about the Qiviut industry in Alaska and about the fiber that is the undercoat of Musk Ox. This luxury fiber is spun and knit into intricate hand knit items of all sorts. Alaska has many local artisans making this a journey of traditional discovery. The only part of cruising that I don’t like, is that not all knitters get to come along. That’s why I’ve created this special club.

Themes
Each edition of the Arctic Lace Luxury Yarn Club will include stories about how the design was inspired by the Alaskan or Canadian landscape. A photo essay will let you come along with me as an armchair traveler, and explore the wild rural and urban landscapes in the Pacific Northwest. You’ll learn about these topics and more:

• Anchorage: musk oxen, Yu’pik and Inupiat Eskimos
• Juneau: berries and bears, the history of Alaska, Russian influences
• Haines: forget me not and fireweed flowers, bald eagles, Alaska wildlife
• Glacier Bay: glaciers, snowflakes, the arctic and sub-arctic climate * Ketchikan: fishing, Tlingit culture and totem poles
• Vancouver: forests, evergreen trees, mountains, city life
