I have often been asked for a Christening set suitable for a boy. This is my answer! An Angel Top, Dungarees and Booties with a matching Shawl.
The lace is simple enough for any boy to be Christened in, but complex enough to look impressive on the day. It is practical too - the dungarees have a bib which will help keep the clothing ‘together’ when the babe is handed round the admiring crowd. As the ground is garter stitch, it will stretch to fit babies of many ages. Ribbon or elastic can be used at wrist and ankles to help with the fit on a small baby.
The Cataria Shawl was designed to be useful as both a baby shawl and as a shawl for adults. It is worked from the centre outwards, and the lace is then worked sideways. Although as written it is worked to and fro (so return rows are all knit) it could easily be adapted to being worked in the round with purl return rows if desired. It is also available as a separate pattern.
