Inspired by the fun we have as a family decorating for Christmas each year and enjoying tasty decorated gingerbread with hot chocolate afterwards, I created a garland with fun characters and other Christmas symbols that you can look forward to meeting again each year and even personalise to resemble your own family.

You can choose whether to make one of each ornament or more and whether to present them as a pretty fireplace, shelf or staircase garland or keep them as individual ornaments for your tree. This purchase includes separate downloads for crocheters who use US Terms and those who use UK terms so you’ll be able to follow the pattern easily in your preferred style. A knitted version is available as a separate pattern, so do take a look at that if you also like to knit.

What you’ll need to know before you start:

Sizes: Make the garland to fit your own home and in your preferred weight of yarn, so your sizing will reflect this. Sizes and yardage in the pattern are for DK yarn.

Tension: 16 sts x 20 rows = 10cm/4” measured over dc.

Working method: Most ornaments are crocheted flat, back and forth with paired side incs and decs for shaping. An edging is added for a smooth, firm, non-curling finish and embroidered details, button and pipe cleaner embellishments are added afterwards. The candy cane is made as crocheted cord with a pipe cleaner inside to help shape it.
The garland is made of three strands of crocheted cord and the ornaments can be stitched on (or given ribbon ties enabling them to be fastened on).
