Wrote my first crochet pattern in 2014, the Rainbow Granny Tote, and published it as a free download. I saw it was downloaded hundreds of times, which prompted me to get serious about pattern writing. Had the pattern tested and, as a result of excellent feedback from my testers, re-vamped the entire pattern.
