As a young person, I considered studying archaeology, so I’ve always found our history intriguing. In recent years, my interest in history has been reignited, thanks to historians like Sara Alfort, Emma Paaske, Cecilie Nielsen, and Gry Jexen. They focus on bringing women to the forefront of history. I hadn’t considered that something was missing from historical narratives, but the more I read and listen, the more delighted I become to learn about the women who came before us. Not just because they are women, but also because they represent half of our collective history that has never been told. As a prelude to working on this collection, we invited our designers to Gry Jexen’s lecture “Know Your History, Woman.” Gry is a fantastic communicator, and I can only recommend hearing her speak. Gry is so inspiring that a design in this collection has been named after her. I hope you’ll be inspired to knit P Wave, Elbe, Gry, Helle, or any of the other lovely designs inspired by strong women throughout history – and perhaps delve into the half of history that, with few exceptions, has been overlooked in historical narratives until now.
