When I heard that my beloved childhood book, “The Hobbit”, by J. R. R. Tolkein, was being made into a movie, I decided to re-read the book. Now an avid knitter, I realized that the book was bursting with knitting patterns if one read the book with the right perspective. As Thorin said, “There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something.” This revelation led to the creation of this collection of patterns.

I hope you enjoy knitting them as much as I enjoyed designing them. After all, “If more of us valued food and cheer and song (and knitting, I would add) above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
