Textured stitches create stitch definition and dimension on the surface of hand knit garments and accessories. Integrating colour with creative lines, contours, and angles adds interest. Using texture as an accent in a border, a panel, or along the edge of a knitted garment creates an intriguing accent and finishing detail. Designs can be transformed from something very basic to creations with low to high contrast and dimension
This e-booklet is a collection of hand knit textured Tweed stitch patterns, inspired by woven Harris Tweeds and Scottish Tartans. As a knitwear designer inspired by the art of weaving, I have adapted the woven texture to knitting texture, incorporating elements that were intriguing and design-worthy.
The intent of this e-booklet of textured stitch patterns is as an introduction to learning and experimenting with texture, especially for someone new to knitting. Activities are included to knit swatches of each pattern, flat and in the round, and create a couple of small projects to learn and to improve one’s knitting techniques. For an experienced knitter, swatching textures, exploring colour and the combinations of different stitch patterns, may inspire your own unique and creative knitwear designs.
