Five hats in one pattern! Eye of the Partridge, worked on #8 needles in Worsted Weight, is the easiest of slipstitch patterns. It looks best when knit in smooth spun yarns, using the same type of yarn for both MC and CC. The color combinations are endless – bold and dynamic in high contrast – soft and subtle in colors of similar value.
Jane’s Slouch, worked on #4 needles in Sport Weight – slightly compacted for extra body, is the tam for today! Gracefully framing the face or pulled on to fit your mood. Knit in a wool & alpaca blend, it is soft, elegant and warm, too. I used the prototype as my cold-weather garden work hat and it was perfect – stayed on in the wind and while I was in and under shrubs! This slouch tam is fine in an array of fibers, and you might discover you want to knit more than one…
Zette is written to three different styles, each determined by the diameter. Knit on #9 DP needles in Heavy Worsted Weight, your fiber choice and diameter size will yield a different look.
The fibers used, be they soft chunky alpaca, crisp worsted spun wools or any of the fabulous fibers and blends in between, will influence the attitude of your Zette. Make the Beret, the 11” Tam or the larger 12” slouch Tam – all are fast and fun to knit –you just might need to knit one of each!
The pattern includes the well-loved P.S. Pointers, knitting tips and little ‘knitting lessons’, making it a good beginner pattern.
