We welcome you to Slater Mill’s Weekend Knitting from Knitting Weekend, a Trad Arts Studio project. This project was conceived to welcome the world of knitters to the fiber and technology history that makes Slater Mill, on the banks of the Blackstone River, the Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution in America in 1793. Now in its 7th year, Knitting Weekend convenes designers, knitters, and fiber artists at Slater Mill for salons, classes, and a gorgeous Fiber Art Marketplace in the historic first floor museum. The best yarns from New England’s artisans find their way into the hands of gifted knitters in the Marketplace, among the historic textile machines.
Weekend Knitting from Knitting Weekend design/pattern contributors Amy Christoffers, Thea Colman, Bristol Ivy, Ellen Mason, and Alicia Plummer demonstrate a creativity that is essential to modern entrepreneurial textile arts spirit. They carry on a tradition, but they do so as adventurers. They are charting a course for a new generation of knitwear designers and the knitters who eagerly await the fast flow of new patterns made possible, once again, by fast paced information technology and global communities who share their passion for the fiber arts. We thank the ingenious spirits behind the creation of Ravelry for making availability of this e-book possible.
