You’re standing there, with your camera in hand, on top of a splendid mountain surrounded by rolling patchwork hills of green. Or you’re on a cliff where sea birds wheel and cry, overlooking an impossibly blue sea. Or deep in the middle of a quiet woods, carpeted with bluebells in the spring. You’re trying to frame a shot but, everywhere you look, it’s so breathtakingly, heart-stoppingly beautiful, you can’t decide where to point the camera.
Been there? Then you understand my dilemma.
I’ve been mesmerized by the beauty of Wales for nearly a decade. It has settled into my heart, and my knitting. The Gothic spires and hand-hewn stones of Tintern Abbey; a swiftly flowing stream, flanked by leafy woodland at Cenarth Falls; the joy of slurping my favorite ginger ice cream in the world, from Shepherd’s, in Hay-On-Wye; the unmistakable silhouette of a Red Kite in flight.
These, and many more of my favorite Welsh places and experiences, are now yours to knit. I can’t tell you how pleased I am to share this tiny country I now call home in a new collection of patterns, Welsh for Rainbow.
Welsh for Rainbow, Volume 1: Heads Hands & Feet includes 9 patterns for small projects - socks, mittens, scarves and hats - and is available through subscription.
