I started this project specifically to use up this red/orange yarn. It came from a grab bag and it’s cool, but not quite my style. I’ve been wanting to try this shawl pattern for a while, so I found a contrasting yarn to pair with it, and here we are.

Current feelings on the yarn knitted up are about the same as when it was in a ball. (I think it looked best in the hank. sweat_smile ) The back/purl side actually looks cooler to me than the front. I think part of the issue is the rows all squashed together pre-blocking, so maybe it’ll be better when it’s flattened out and less line-y. One neat thing is that the color repeat in the yarn is almost exactly in sync with the stitch number in the “lake” design, so each one is roughly the same coloration per-row. Pretty cool!

Finished knitting and weaving in ends! Got creative with the end of the pattern, because I prematurely ran out of my CC yarn. (Looking back at the quantity requirements, it was obvious this would happen. Apparently I wasn’t paying attention at the shop. sweat_smile ) So the shawl is 16 repeats instead of 19, and I did a stockinette edging with the variegated yarn instead. I think it’s fine, and I really like the pooling that came out on the edge.

Just need to block, and I can call it done!

Finally blocked! This thing is such a weird shape. joy It definitely looks much better post blocking! I think the pattern was a good fit for this yarn. slightly_smiling_face
