And it's done! I rushed the last 30% or so in order to finish it in time for the July pride parade my wife-to-be and I went to this year. It was a success and a wonderful time!

To solve the problem of how to most effectively and efficiently switch between purple and blue for the bottom part, I have divided a portion of my blue yarn into 46 different balls to attach individually to each front post section. This is definitely a good idea and I absolutely won't regret it.

We spent most of the afternoon yesterday dealing with a bad habit of making chains too tight. Now it really begins. I've never worked with 100% cotton before! Or something this big with yarn this thin.

I ended up having to do some improv to get the size right for my 6’4” partner, and in order to make it look like the original image on the pattern listing. That was confusing I admit, but in the end the dress turned out perfectly, and the pattern was a good guide for getting there.

I finished it the night before a pride parade, and its first use was on the streets celebrating the queer community and trans beauty! It has inspired me to want to use #2 cotton yarn more in the future, and generally to keep learning to make clothes.
