Update 3/25/2014
I wet blocked it last night. I used a Eucalan soak and dried it on a smaller plate to spread out the lace pattern and relax the hat.
It looks really nice, but it is definitely too big! And I say that knowing that I have a very large head.
When I make the next one I will definitely go down at least one 14 stitch repeat, to 154. I’m not sure I can go down 2 repeats, to 140. I will actually measure my head and compare to this hat, which was made with the full 168 stitches. My gauge was on the spot, so I’m not sure what went wrong.
Update 3/24/2014
DONE! All I need to do is some light blocking…I did the full size (168 stitches), and it’s probably loose on me, but I like that. It’s wonderfully slouchy at this size.
I think the mixed colors looks pretty cool.
I love this pattern!
Update 3/21/2014
I finished the main chart pattern in the green and am switching to the blue for the crown chart. I will do the final switch to purple for the decrease section.
Update 3/20/2014
I decided to change colors since I had to frog back my ribbing. I’m going to be making this out of several colors.
Initial Remarks 3/18/2014
I had to hibernate my other tam as I had a huge yarn failure. However, I did learn a lot some I’m having another go at it. This time I’m doing two colors…I’m using the Iris Heather which is darker for the ribbing and first section of the lace, then I’ll be switching to the Blossom Heather for the rest of the hat.
I have many lessons learned with the last hat so this one should hopefully be more successful!
