Notes

05-01-15

I’ve never made anything but baby sweaters so here I go with something REALLY big.

05-06-15

I’ve actually made some decent progress but realized I’m short a bunch on yarn for this so I bought some grey to do the sleeves and band. Hopefully this’ll keep me on track! However, I am going to let this languish while I work on some of the other things I’ve got going. I KNEW I SHOULD NEVER HAVE STARTED ALL THIS SHIT.

10-03-15

Only five months later, I have finished the first half (not including sleeves or front band, obviously). This thing looks frighteningly short…

04-17-2016

So, I think I made it too big around and too short. Gonna tear it out and start again. Hibernating until then!

11-14-2017

Over a year and a half later, I’m ready to try this again. My knitting has surely improved since then so I’m kind of excited to do a better job! It took me so fucking long to tear out that front piece that my arms are too tired to actually cast on again.expressionless

11-15-2017

I’m making the 46/48 size but I cast on 120 sts for some extra length.

11-19-2017

I brought this out of hibernation just in time to put it aside for Baby Viv knitting. But I’ll be back soon!

12-28-2017

Pulling this out and will start over again with the US3 and 5, 120 sts, and the Tech Knitter fix for the flippy garter band. Hibernating for now.

05-29-2018

Tired of seeing this mock me while I work on other shit. Back to sleep it goes.

09-23-2018

Picking this back up while I wait for yarn to arrive. Will I ever finish this asshole of a cardi?!

01-09-2019

I am back on this motherfucker and I have given myself ‘til the end of spring to finish it. THIS WILL HAPPEN, DAMN IT.

01-22-2019

It turns out I may have been counting my rows incorrectly. I MAY HAVE TO RIP THIS OUT FOR THE FOURTH FUCKING TIME. I am about ready to set this yarn on fire and dance over its smoking ashes. I’m waiting for a response from Joji’s assistant. I don’t understand. I rarely have trouble understanding a pattern and, honestly, until I got to the second half of the second armhole, I thought it was all going fine. Fuck, fuck, fuck. I need to start Kid’s Dissent so I guess this is going back into hibernation for a while. God damn it, I’m so frustrated.

01-22-2019

With a heavy heart, I ripped it out again. Next time, I’m going to make the larger size, cast on 130 stitches, and do a seed stitch border instead of garter. This will be finished this year but I have to get Kid’s cardi done before her birthday.

03-23-2019

Oh, yeah, and I didn’t need to rip it out last time… Joji responded and I was doing it right. Arrrrgh! confounded

But, I’m getting back in the saddle again! I’ve got this bitch KnitCompanioned within an inch of its life and I WILL CRUSH IT THIS TIME!

Also, I needed something to work on tonight and tomorrow until I can get over to Christy’s for help with the steek on Kid’s Dissent.

I’m going to use some of the tips from this version and hopefully get some length (I’m doing 125 stitches; it was supposed to be 150 but apparently I missed a section after a marker weary), a better bottom edge (over 7 in seed stitch), and sexy sleeve cap. Hooray!

04-24-2019

The first half of the body is done again. I haven’t been knitting like normal as I am deep into The Elder Scrolls Online right now. It’s fine. I’m still going to finish this…just much more slowly than I’d planned. face_with_rolling_eyes

05-07-2019

Finally joined a ball of yarn I haven’t knit used before in this project! Thank god. Only 17 rows before I’m done with the body!

05-08-2019

God damn lies. I had one mistake in my row count that threw everything off. Ripping back to the first half of the armhole shaping. face_with_symbols_on_mouth

05-16-2019

Fuck yes! I have a complete and correct body ready for a collar and sleeves. I can see the light at the tunnel’s end (please don’t be a train)!

05-20-2019

The collar and front bands are done! Sleeves are all that are left. Woo hoo!

05-30-2019

First sleeve down.

This won’t be done on time but I’m getting so fucking close!

06-05-2019

Second sleeve done! I just need to weave in ends and block it and this more than four year old project is FINISHED. sobjoysweat_smile

06-06-2019

Ends woven and blocking as I type! It developed a hole during its bath (how, god damn it?! Whatever. It’s fixed.) but it definitely grew like promised. I’ll wear it out to Worldwide Knit in Public Day Saturday!
