later on Jan 19: Laying out pieces to block… And the front and back are not the same length at all. Turns out I forgot to modify the post shaping stitch count on the back to account for the 2 increases I didn’t do. AND I knit 10 rows too many on the front.
Will now have to rip and reknit BOTH. arrrggghh
Jan 19: Cast off last sleeve. Blocking…
Yarn amounts seem weird until I remember that some of the acorn was used for swatching. Also some of the Stormy Sea. I did a lot of swatching in the blue so although I came very close to using 5 skeins, that includes a lot of swatches that could have been ripped and reused had I needed them.
(And at this point I haven’t knit the neck band yet, so I’ll dip into that 5th skein…)
Jan 8: I’m now up to the armholes on the back. The decreases were moved to the side which meant doing a 4 fewer than suggested by Custom Fit because there is no way to get 4 in one row all at the side. It looks pretty steep as is with one every right side row for 18 rows. I then only did 1 row of increases instead of the 3 recommended to get back to the right stitch number for the bust. That means this might be a bit looser in the waist but since I went with an average fit rather than a relaxed fit, I think that’ll be fine.
It took me 2 tries to get the colourwork pattern placement right, too. But now that I’m done that section it looks great.
Based on Thea Coleman’s Sambuca
Choices made in Custom Fit:
Average fit
Style: pullover
Length: Medium-hip length
Sleeves: Full-length sleeve
Neck style: Crew neck
Neck depth: 3″/7.5 cm Below shoulders
Finishing:
Hem edging and height: 1x1 rib, 1½″/4 cm
Sleeve edging and height: 1x1 rib, 2½″/6.5 cm
Neck edging and height: 1x1 rib, 1″/2.5 cm
Some of these are changes from what Coleman has. I used an average fit crew neck wheras COleman has either a boat neck or a wide crew. I also went for an average fit rather than a relaxed fit because I don’t want that much ease.
I selected mid-hip length but plan to keep Coleman’s back hem shaping bringing the back down to low-hip length.
