Moss Stitch Throw

MATERIALS
• 12 to 13 skeins soft worsted acrylic yarn (13 skeins Bernat Satin 3.5-ounce/200 yards or 12 skeins Caron Simply Soft 4-ounce;235 yards)
• 1 (4-ounce) or 2 (3-ounce) skeins soft worsted acrylic yarn for edging
• H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
SIZE: 48 inches x 60 inches
GAUGE: 14 stitches and 14 rows in moss stitch pattern = 4 inches (10 cm)

• ch = chain
• dc = double crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• pat = pattern
• rep = repeat
• RS = right side of piece
• sc = single crochet
• sl st = slip stitch

INSTRUCTIONS

ROW 1: Ch 157. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 dc in next ch. 1 sc in next ch. 1 dc in next ch. Rep from to end of chain. Turn. (156 sts)

ROW 2: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. 1 dc in next sc. 1 sc in next dc. Rep from to end of row. Turn.

Rep Row 2 in in pat until Blanket from beg measures 60 inches. Fasten off.

Blanket binding edging neatens up ragged-looking afghan sides and creates a uniform perimeter. See link to original pattern for photos of sl st technique.

Join edging yarn to front of a RS corner st. Sl st around front edge of piece; join with a sl st to the first sl st. Ch 2. Hdc in the top loop only of each sl st around, working 3 hdc in each corner; join with a sl st to the first hdc. Fasten off.

Join edging yarn to front of a WS corner st. Sl st around front edge of piece into the same sts used on RS; join with a sl st to the first sl st. Ch 2. Hdc in the top loop only of each sl st around, working 3 hdc in each corner; join with a sl st to the first hdc. Ch 1.

Matching WS and RS sts, sc through both around. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
