I got the idea for this afghan from one I saw in the Amazon show, Goliath. I saw a granny afghan on the back of a couch but the squares were much smaller, only 3 rounds of variegated with black as the final round of each square. I thought it was pretty cool the way all the same colors were placed in a column. So I decided to try with all my variegated-with-whites yarn that I had. I wish I had more colors but I only had 5 that were a color plus white. But I think it came out pretty nice for a granny blanket. I didn’t have enough of the purple to do more than 5 squares and I thought a 5x5 square afghan would be too small, so I bought the zebra (black & white) and made 10 squares of that and put a row on each end to make it a bit longer, 5 x 7 squares.

This is how I did my granny squares (I used a chainless starting dc to start each round except R1, many videos on YouTube):
R1: ch4, 2dc in first ch (ch2, 3dc in first ch)3x, hdc in top of beg ch.
R2: 3dc over hdc, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next space around, 3dc in first sp, hdc to first dc.
R3-7: 3dc over hdc, 3dc in each space to next corner, (3dc, ch2, 3dc) in next corner space, rep from around, omitting last corner. 3dc in first space, hdc to first dc.

Then I did 1 granny round of black around the whole afghan and finished it with 1 round of sc into each dc, with (sc, ch2, sc) in each corner.
