I have completed this project twice. Once using the purchased kit in child’s medium size in 2009. I purchased the kit to get the colour charts.
I completed again in 2014 for an adult incorporating some design changes. I added an interfaced ‘Chanel’ style collar and pockets. I picked up only a portion of the sleeves to shape a small sleeve cap, before working the rest of the sleeves in the round down to the cuff. I added a 2-colour I-cord all the way around the body of the sweater, including the collar. This I-cord echoes the purl check stitches at pocket. I varied the needles sizes to shape the waist and lower arms.
Standard steeks used at front opening, armholes and front and back of neck.
I used more colours and especially, I changed the flames in the Firebird motif from khaki colour to flame colours.
December 1, 2016 Alterations for Danica
Dec 1, 2016: Darling Danica, now 10, has finally grown out of her cardi. I am going to try and add 3 1/2” of length to sleeves, and increase width of front and bottom border. Also, if I replace buttons with front hook closures we will gain at least another 1/2 inch in width. I do not have more of the Hebridean yarn that came as a kit. I have matched colours as closely as possible from my stash using Spindrift, Jamieson & Smith 2-ply jumper weight and the original Starmore Campion. Fortunately the Campion colours are similar to some of the Virtual Yarn colours.
