My hunddreth bunny. I asked for ideas for him and this was suggested. A bunny in a bee costume, why not! The recipient keeps bees as a hobby so this is really appropriate. The bunny was knit with black legs and the lower half of the body black. All done in size 3mm needles as per the boy bunny pattern.

The bee costume

I used the top down jumper pattern. Did the first 5 rows black, next 6 yellow then split for the sleeves on the next black stripe and did the sleeves all black. From there down I just did 3 stripes of 6 rows yellow and 3 stripes of 2 rows of black. On the last black stripe I decreased the st count from 60 to 40 and then cast off. I sewed the bottom together in the middle to divide the legs, a bit like a romper suit and added a button at the top as per jumper pattern. It was easy enough to get on to the bunny bottom up.

The wings were done with what is probably an aran weight cotton on size 3 needles. I did this to give some rigidity but they may just be a little heavy. I used the wing pattern from Val Pierces honeybee bear. I sewed them to the bee suit so the whole costume can be removed if required.

The antennae were just made using the black cotton held double, and a size 3 crochet hook. Chain 5, did a dc in the last chain, threaded the cotton through all the stitches on the hook, (mainly because I couldn’t get the hook through them :) ) I fed the yarn back down the antenna and left enough to thread through the head just in front of the ears. I tied them off under the head, a bit like when doing the eyes. This made them stiff enough to stand up and worked a treat.
