UPDATE: I’ve seen so much interest in this project that I finally published it as a downloadable PDF in my Ravelry shop. It has both written and chart instructions. If you’ve already made the scarf from the instructions I once had here, please link your project to the new project page. Thank you.

This is a scarf/shawl based on one worn by the character Amy Pond in the Doctor Who episode The Pandorica Opens. It is quite possibly proof of my madness. A wide, lace scarf with thin yarn and tiny needles. Awesome.

The secret to this project? Lifelines. LOTS OF LIFELINES!

I’ve rated this as difficult because I think it’s one of the more complicated lace patterns I’ve knit, and with the smaller yarn and needles I’ve found it easy to accidentally drop stitches. I’ve been putting a lifeline every six rows so if I do have to rip back, it’s not by much.

Honestly, I am having moments where knitting on this makes me swear I’ll give up knitting when I’m done. It just seems to take FOREVER to make any progress. I promise now I’ll wear this for the rest of my life and cherish it like a child. It’s THAT labour intensive.

This blocked SO beautifully I’m a bit taken aback by it. I’m very pleased with the result.
