Improvised stockinette and garter scarf with diagonal knitting direction. The basic idea is alternating 8 row sections of stockinette and garter stitch, with a slightly longer 12 row section of garter on each end; plus a 2-stitch i-cord edge and diagonal shaped with inc/decs.
This method would work with any stitch count but I cast on 44 stitches for this scarf.
GARTER SECTION =
RS 1: knit 2, k2tog, knit to last 2 stitches, yo, knit 2
WS 2: slip 2, knit tbl of the yo to close it, knit to last 2 stitches, slip 2
RS 3: knit
WS 4: slip 2, knit to last 2 stitches, slip 2
Repeat rows 1-4 once more (or twice more, for the first and last sections)
STOCKINETTE SECTION =
RS 1: knit 2, k2tog, knit to last 2 stitches, yo, knit 2
WS 2: slip 2, purl tbl of the yo to close it, purl to last 2 stitches, slip 2
RS 3: knit
WS 4: slip 2, purl to last 2 stitches, slip 2
Repeat rows 1-4 once more.
