The pattern is designed to be felted, but I like the look of plain knit. I went down several needle sizes in order to get a fabric dense enough that the stuffing wouldn’t show through.
This was a really fun pattern to knit—very enjoyable. Also, very well written and laid out in a clear and easy-to-follow fashion. The top (back) of the bunny and the belly are knit flat in two separate pieces, leaving stitches on holders for the feet and ears. Once the body is seamed together, the feet, ears, and tail are picked up and knit in the round. The shaping for the body is really nicely done.
I used the variegated color for the top and the plain color for the belly and the ear linings (the pattern calls for a lighter weight yarn and smaller needles for the ear linings). I really liked that the ears turned out stiff enough to stay up on their own — very cute! I added a running stitch around the base of the tail to pouf it out more.
The eyes were embroidered with some fingering weight black yarn I had about. I didn’t embroider a nose and mouth (though a nice diagram for one is given in the pattern!), because i thought he looked cute enough without it.
Anyway, I love this bunny! It was hard to let him go :-)

I bought this pattern via mail order from the designer, many moons ago (like, snail mail… those were the Before Times). But the designer’s daughter is carrying on in her mother’s memory and has made this wonderful pattern available on Craftsy!
This is seriously one of the best knitted toy patterns I’ve encountered — go forth and scoop it up, ye knitters :-)
