I slightly altered the Nautie pattern to get the head for Cthulhu. I used one color- the frosty green, and size six double pointed needles. I followed the pattern for the coiled shell, and where I had to make one stitch I would coil and pick up a stitch from the coil to add a stitch, this kept it tightly coiled. After getting to 36 stitches, I did ten more regular rows of knit and then followed the pattern to bind off the head.
Cthulhu has 13 tentacles in the story. I did three on the top (picking up five stitches instead of three), four tentacles under those (picking up four stitches), then three tentacles, then two tentacles, then one, so that they staggered down.
For the eyes I simply used a needle and created them.
The body I kind of made up as I went along. I cast on 6 stitches- two per needle, and knitted front and back until it increased to 42 stitches. I knitted that for about five inches then increased to 60 stitches for the butt so the bottom would be wider and it could sit up by itself.
Good grief! Wings are obnoxious. I knitted flat- increasing and decreasing stitches, knitting two together to get the bends in the wings. They’re roughly the same size. To get them to stand up I knitted in icord with a pipe cleaner inside. Stitched to the back at an angle and tightly to help them stand. Without the pipe cleaners wings will be totally flappy.
The arms and legs I did simply- the legs I knitting in the round, 24 stitches. The arms were 18 stitches. Then I sewed them to the body.
He stands on his own!
My first time doing a project like this :) And he’s all finished!
