Gauge: stockinette stitch, 9 stitches per inch.
Only making regular socks, so cast on 80 stitches and did k1, p1 rib for 14 rounds.
I decided to use the pattern combination minus the pattern of the calf decreases. In between the two Alpine Pass motifs, I have a Wheat Grain motif exactly like what’s between the other motifs. Total number of stitches in patterned area is 99.
Set up row: M1p, kbl, p, kbl, M1p, p, M1p, left twist (Lt), m1p, kbl, p, kbl, p, Lt, kbl,M1p, p, M1k, kbl, p, M1p, kbl, p, kbl, p, kbl, p, kbl, p, M1p, kbl, p, kbl, p, kbl, p, M1k, kbl, p, M1p, kbl, p, kbl, p, kbl, p, Lt, kbl, M1p, p, M1k, kbl, p, M1p, kbl, p, kbl, p, kbl, M1p, p, M1k, (kbl, p) 4 times, M1p, (kbl, p) 4times, Lt, kl, p, Lt, kbl, p, M1p, kbl, p, kbl, p, kbl, M1p, p, M1p (99 stitches).

Row 17: continued pattern for 2 major motifs and the divider, then turned.

(RS): (Sl 1, k 1) to end.
Repeat last two rows 15 times more, ending on RS.
Heel: sl 1, k19, k1 ssk k1, turn.
Decreased sole until 34 stockinette stitches (approx 3.7 inches). I’m hoping total circumference of foot will be about 7.75 inches. Total stitches is 86.
Decided to do the Pointed Toe from Knitting Vintage Socks (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/knitting-vintage-...), but since I was starting with 68 stitches, will start at round 9. Instead of starting toe 3.5 inches from end, started toe 3 inches from end, after foot was 6.5 inches long, ending after pattern row 3.
Set up round: after row 3 on patterned instep, knit stockinette across 34 sole stitches. Then:
(p1, k1) twice, p2tog, k1, p1, k1, (p2tog, k2tog) twice, p1, k1, (p2tog, k2tog) 5 times, p2tog, (k1, p1) twice, k1, p2tog, k1, p1, k2tog (34 stitches). When needed, I substituted ssk for k2tog to make a neater decrease.
Doubled yarn when starting toe.
