I’m making socks instead of stockings and using the pattern on pages 116-117.

Started heel after completing the fourth row from the bottom of the 4th motif from the center back, which ends up being row 2 of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd motifs from center back.
Note to self which I hope I remember: Next time when I cast on, start row a few motifs before the center back to make it easier to reduce stitches for heel.
56 stitches for heel, which is the 1st and 2nd motifs from center back and almost all of the 3rd motif from center back.
Decreasing for heel:
Start after completing round, from center back.
k2tog, p2tog, k1b, p2tog, k1b, p1, RT, k1b, p2tog, (k1b, p1) 3 times, RT, (k1b, p1) 2 times, RT, k1b, turn.
Slip 1, (k1, p1) 12 times, k2tog, p1, k2tog, p1, k2tog, p2tog, k2tog, p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k2tog, p2tog, k1, p1, k1, LT, p1, turn. (45 stitches for heel)
Row 1: (sl1, k1) to the last stitch, k1
Row 2: sl1, then p across
Repeat these two rows another 21 times.
Doubled yarn for turning heel.
Reduced to 39 stitches stockinette for sole.
Length US women’s size 8 = 9.76”
Round toe (37 rows total) = 3.22”
Started toe when foot was about 6.5” long, about 70 rows from end of heelflap/start of turning heel, after row 10 of the three center front motifs. Reduced 44 instep stitches to 31 stitches (70 stitches total), then started toe shaping at start of stockinette stitches for sole, not at center sole.
