Making a women’s sock rather than a stocking, so no calf gusset. Pattern is taken from pages 122-123 of Twisted Stitch Knitting plus 2 motifs to form center back: mirror images of motif #65 separated by p1, k1b, p1. Other motifs on sock follow the written pattern and are separated by p1, k1b, k1b, p1.

Cast on 80 stitches, did k1b, p1 ribbing for 14 rows.

Set-up row: (k1b, p1) 8 times, k1b, M1k, p1, LT, k1b, p1, LT, k1b, p1, M1p, LT, k1b, M1k, RT, p1, LT, k1b, p1, (k1b, M1k) 4 times, LT, (k1b, p1) 4 times, M1k, (k1b, p1) 4 times, M1k, k1b, p1, (k1b, M1k) 4 times, LT, k1b, p1, M1p, LT, M1k, k1b, M1k, p1, M1p, LT, k1b, p1, M1p, k1b, M1k, p1, LT (99 stitches).

Started on row 8 of center front motif (first row is row 0). Started with k1b, p1, then first of two mirror images of motif #65. (Row ends with p1, k1b.)

Started on heel after knitting row 13 of the center front motif. Stopped 16 stitches before end of row 13. Worked on the next 49 stitches for the heel (50 stitches held on other part of circular needle for instep).

Set up row for heel: decreased 9 stitches and rearranged stitches into k1, p1 pattern (40 sts for heel). Turn
next row: slip 1, p to the end of the row.

Heel: (slip 1, k1) repeat to the end of the row. Turn. Slip 1, purl to the end.

Repeat 19 more times, for a total of 40 heel rows.

Doubled yarn for turning the heel.

Decreased sole stitches to 50 stitches.

For toe, decreased 20 instep stitches. Toe is 80 sts total. Did Star toe of 5 points from vintage pattern in Weldon’s.
