I started Petrosinella women’s small size (because I have a narrow foot) but didn’t care for the braided cable pattern on the foot. I wanted something that would stand out more and take advantage of the color way--the braided cable just looked muddy to me.

So instead of the 6-stitch cable pattern, I substituted stitch 16.6 (page 34) from the Harmony Guides: 220 Aran Stitches and Patterns volume 5 (ISBN: 1855856336).

Bobbles:
k into the front and back of the stitch to make 5 stitches, turn.
purl 5, turn.
ssk, k1, k2tog, turn.
purl 3, turn.
slip 1, k2tog, psso.

I really like the bobbles, which add a whimsical touch, and the pattern shows up much better on this colorway.

Because of the bobbles, I decided not to continue the pattern down the foot and made the foot in stockinette stitch (after picking up the gusset, I decreased to 56 stitches). For the heel flap, I didn’t pay attention closely enough to the directions and so I did sl1, k1 for all right side rows.

58 rows after picking up the gusset, I started the toe. Instead of the toe in the pattern, I used the Pointed Toe on the Madder Ribbed Sock from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. Since I had 56 stitches, I started the toe on row 5 of the instructions (page 25). With this yarn and this needle, the toe ended up being about 2 5/8” long from first decrease to the point.
