When I ended up making the pillow, I realized that keeping live stitches as suggested by others was not the best way for me… So my last panel was cast-on, cast-off normally. This made it look slightly different but much better where I sewed it together. So I’m not thrilled with the sewing job and I could have done better but I already felt it was pretty imperfect so I just didn’t care enough. Still, I learned a lot and finished it!

Just loose ends and the borders to knit but it’s looking very afghanish!

I have decided to re-knit the first panel to make the color match better. Hopefully it will go faster now that I’ve done so much cabling. But the other two panels are seamed together and I love what I have so far! I turned the mismatched color part into a sham and it works pretty good for my friends foam pillow. The cats like it anyway.

When I finished the first two panels I laid them out and realized that the first yarn I used was different than the next two, slightly different in both color and texture, even though it was supposed to be “no dye lot” yarn. There was a very noticeable color change about 2/3 through the first panel. I bought the first two within weeks of each other in Salt Lake at the same Michael’s. The next one I bought over a year later in Austin and it matches the second one. Strange. I didn’t notice before because I knit the first panel in my basement in Salt Lake, and it is brighter in the apartment here. I did the third panel in a different pattern because:

a) It will be faster/easier
b) My friend didn’t like the bobbles
c) The diamond pattern was on a blanket my grandma made and I wanted to use it
d) I didn’t like the way the center panel was written.

My first repeat of the Center Braid is jacked up because the pattern seemed incorrect so I redid just that section and it messed with the tension a bit, especially in the side purl stitches. But I really didn’t care enough to undo the whole thing.
