Notes

This is my contemporary version of a Sanguhar gansey that I designed for a gansey Knit Along with friends. I used Beth Brown-Reinsel’s Knitting Ganseys instructions for overall sizing and techniques to include traditional gansey features as my initials and underarm gussets. Beth’s instructions are clear and easy to follow. The stitch patterns are from Patterns for Guernseys, Jerseys & Arans by Gladys Thompson. The gauge is 30 stitches and 32 rows to 4 inches over the color pattern.

My gansey was knit from the bottom corrugated ribbing to the neckline. Stitches added to the armholes and neckline were subsquently steeked. I picked up stitches along each armhole and knit down to the cuff. I picked up stitches at the neckline and brought the center motif into the funnel collar on the front and the back.
