Denny and I started the New Year out with an early morning hike with friends at beautiful Russian Ridge in San Mateo County (SF Bay Area). The weather was quite cold – in the 30s (F), but warmed up as the hike progressed. In the pictures below, I’m wearing Cat Bordhi’s “Arctic Anemone Hat” and my own version of some “Anemone Gloves” that I knitted last May. It was finally cold enough to wear them on New Year’s Day. And Denny loves the outrageous hat I knitted and gave him for Christmas. He actually requested it. On this chilly morning, I know his hat and my hand-knitted scarf kept his ears warm. If you’d like to see more of my pictures from this hike, here’s the link.
I made Cat Bordhi’s “Everyday Anemone Hat” in March 2012 using King Cole “Twist” yarn. See this post for info:

Cat’s “Arctic Anemone Hat” (pictured in this post) uses chunky yarn. I chose Sirdar Escape in colorway “Stillness 177” which I ordered from www.deramores.com. It knits up very quickly. I can’t remember how many balls I used for the hat and gloves, but I ordered 6 balls. I did the moebius band in Cat’s pattern on both of my hats. But somehow I always end up wearing it with the moebius in the back. I did include one picture of the moebius.
You may purchase Cat Bordhi’s “Anemone Hat” pattern for $7. by clicking on the “here” link on this Web page:

The pattern covers all sizes from baby through adult, and has two styles – the “Everyday Anemone Hat” (worsted weight yarn) and the “Arctic Anemone Hat” (chunky yarn with more closely spaced tendrils).
I made up my own version of her hat using fingering yarn on Denny’s hat. Send me a PM if you’re interested in details about that. You can read about Denny’s hat in these two posts:

“Anemone Gloves” are my adaptation of a free pattern by Stephen Hughes-Jelen who took an idea from James Innes. So it’s a conglomeration of ideas. Since I’m an amateur photographer, I intentionally made holes in the index fingers. I see no reason for the flaps mentioned in the pattern. No cold air gets into the holes, and any flaps would only detract from the appearance of the gloves.
