Notes

LOVE how this turned out, love the colours - looking at them makes me happy :-) …

The stuff floating around on the fjord in the 2nd and 4th pic is actually the last bit of ice from winter - it’s almost all melted away now - which means spring is on the way :-)

Measurements:
Measurements before blocking:
Diameter approx. 100 cm (39.4 inches).
Measurements after blocking, relaxed:
Diameter approx. 144 cm (56.7 inches).

Modifications:
I had trouble with getting the correct stitch count in the rows in the charts where there’s a blue marking - this blue marking indicates a sk2p in all repeats in this row except for the first repeat - in the first repeat the blue marking should be knit as a ssk instead.
Doing this resulted in me having one stitch too many in the last repeat in these rows and I couldn’t really figure out what to do with this extra stitch - I improvised and this repeat ended up looking like on the bottom pic. Not pretty!

I contacted the designer and she was really great - and very helpful in trying to get me back on track. She advised the following: In these rows with the blue marking I moved the stitch marker one stitch to the right before starting the row (making the last stitch in the previous row become the first stitch in the next row) and after that totally ignoring that the stitch in the first repeat should be knit differently and instead knit this repeat like any other repeat in that row.

After a few rows of following her suggestion I could see that it worked out perfectly - the transition between the ‘new row’-repeats is almost 100% identical to the rest of the ‘between repeats’-transitions. If I didn’t have a blue marker where the new rows begin (instead of a pink marker for the rest of the repeats) I probably wouldn’t be able to tell them apart - so I’m definately happy with the way this turned out.
On the 4th picture I’ve marked with a red arrow where the ‘new row’ repeat is - as you can see there’s very little difference compared to the other repeat on the right.

Bind off:
Decided to choose another bind off than the crochet bind off suggested in the pattern.
Went up to needle size 5.5 mm for bind off using the ‘amazingly stretchy bind-off’ (k2, “put two stitches back on left hand needle and knit together through the back, k1” repeat from ” to ” until one stitch remains, then thread yarn through last stitch and gently pull to tighten).

Yarn amounts used:
The finished shawl weighs 269 grams = a total of 1108 meters (1212 yards).

Botanical Green: Used 108 grams (used all skeins from the set).
Orchid to Botanical Green: Used 105 grams (omitted two skeins from the set).
Orchid: Used 57 grams (omitted two full skeins + approximately half of yet another two skeins from the set).

I actually used way less yarn than what I had expected - but then again - I think I’m the second person to finish the circle version of this shawl, so there’s not a lot of projects to get this info from.

Next time?:
Love this yarn + love this pattern = match made in Heaven :-)
The yarn is a pure delight to knit with… I LOVE seing the colours changes as I move along.
The pattern is well written and very easy to follow, so I’d probably choose to match up this yarn and pattern again sometime in the future (using the same modifications described above).

I actually already have a gorgeous Gradated Yarn Set from ColorShift Yarn in the colourway Zinnia in mind for my next Mistral :-).

Shawl was entered as #2/12 in 12 shawls in 2013/12 shawls forever
